Climate

Cyprus is the warmest Mediterranean island in Europe; here the sun shines more than 340 days a year! It is well known that sunlight guarantees good health, contributes to the active production of serotonin – the hormone of "joy and happiness".

Due to an excellent climate, the island attracts a continuous flow of holiday-makers as well as those who wish to own a property for permanent residence here.

Cyprus has a subtropical climate with very mild winters and dry hot summers. Rain occurs only in winter. Snow is possible only in the Troodos Mountains in the central part of the island, where you can enjoy fresh mountain air, skiing and snowboarding or spending winter holidays in a real Christmas atmosphere.

The average annual temperature on the coast is around 24 °C during the day and 14 °C at night. Generally, summers last about eight months, beginning in April and ending in November with average temperatures of 22°C during the day and 13 °C at night, although in the remaining four months temperatures sometimes exceed 20 °C.

The middle of summer is hot – in July and August on the coast the average temperature is usually around 33°C during the day and around 22°C at night. Inland temperatures are more extreme, with colder winters and hotter summers compared to the coast of the island.

Average annual temperature of seawater is 21–22°C, from 17°C in February to 27–28 °C in August. In total 7 months – from May to November – the average sea temperature exceeds 20 °C.

The island enjoys an average of 5–6 hours of sunshine per day in December to an average of 12–13 hours in July.
